Boots - found!

Shirt - discount place
Boots - "gift" from my grandmother (more like impulse buy)
Skinny jeans - Celebrity Pink Jeans a la Rugged Warehouse
Scarf - Hot Topic
Leaf Earrings (no closeup sorry!) - Claire's

I intended to get rid of my wedged boots. I wore them too often, they were kind of beat up. A week after tossing them into the "donate" pile, I wanted them back. I can usually give up things that I've already decided to get rid of. Rarely do I ever sit for weeks on end wishing I hadn't gotten rid of something, but I knew I made a mistake with these. My FIL had moved the box the boots were in, into a storage area but I told him if he came across them again, I wanted them back..

Lo and behold this morning, there they were!!!

Okay this outfit feels a bit ridiculous but have you ever had a day where you wanted to wear "A", "B" and "C" even though they all didn't quite mesh.. Well I wanted to wear my wedges, my green scarf and my skinny jeans.

I also struggle with this scarf. It was an impulse buy from Hot Topic. The day before the Harry Potter midnight premier I decided I needed an "Outfit" for the night. I had my slytherin shirt, my black jeans, kickass boots, and my crazy trench. This scarf literally screamed at me from outside the store. I ran in, bought it. Stupidly without unfolding it. I thought it was a long skinny lightweight scarf. But instead it was a HUGE square scarf. I still love it, but struggle to wear it more often.

Today was also one of those days where good pictures didn't wanna work. Lighting sucked, I blinked, flash decided NOT to go off. I need a tripod. And a better location to take pictures. With nightclasses I miss out on all the good sunlight since I don't leave the house until 5:30 pm.

I hope everyone contending with the snow is snuggled up warm in their homes (and not dragging themselves out for Math Class). Take it easy on the roads everyone. ♥

Donating&Class

Finally, after weeks of run around, I made it to my local Goodwill drop-off. I would say "Yay I have space now" But the reality is many of those items had already been stored in the car until we got them to the drop-off. @_@ I didn't get rid of everything I've been planning, but I got rid of a coat, bunches of things that don't fit, and a few pairs of shoes. I'm still mildly hoping to arrange a clothing swap in the future. The logistics of which I haven't figured out. I don't mind donating the clothes I don't use, but it'd be nice to exchange them for clothes I could use.

This outfit is what I ended up with after changing 4 times. The belt was something that I was planning to put in the Goodwill pile, because I have never actually worn it. But I'm trying it out. It's the largest belt I own and it's bright white (similar problem as my blazer). Bright white is just so stark in my outfits. Like a shining beacon of brightness. I guess I needed that today.

My original plan was for a layering dress and tights, but it's barely hovering around freezing and I've got class tonight. Class in a cold building. So I grabbed my blue and black sweater that I rarely wear. Layered some jeans (I wanted my purple skinnies, but they're in the wash), knee highs and tall boots for warmth. Not my favorite when it comes to proportions but this is ~*stylish*~ warmth.

While I was at it, I threw on my crazy new earrings. They're very similar to a pair I already own but I love big silver dangle earrings. And since I did big earrings, I tossed on a bangle instead of a necklace.

(I don't know why my pics are so yellow today. My battery was kind of low)

**Minor edit - these earrings have an uncanny issue with falling out of my left ear. Any good suggestions that doesn't involve those clear stoppers?

Gettin' dressed

Still in the fashion slump. After my shower i pulled on a boring long sleeved tee and my "fat" jeans (the ones that don't really serve any purpose except to wear when you feel icky).. But I feel like I've been perpetuating my own sleepy days. So I quickly changed into something more fun. I don't wear these leggings enough. They're a slightly warm grey and don't have "feet" like tights which leaves me puzzled about shoes.

This is just going to be a brief post. I've got Psych reading for tomorrow. Back to the College grind.

Spending confession:

Guys, I have a little spending confession. I am cheap. Ridiculously so. I was raised to always look for bargains and discounts. I've bought many clothes in the past just because they were cheap. Clothes that don't fit, don't work in my closet. Shoes that pinch, and were another pair of black shoes I could do without.

But I've begun following the various advice of my fellow bloggers. In one instance, Audi has mentioned having a mental list of things she is "looking" for and won't buy unless it satisfies a need within her wardrobe. For her it was a navy coat, for me it was a yellow sundress. Aching for warm weather and Adventures with my friends, I scoured the winter-based internet for summer dresses.

And my cheapness kicked in. I found a dozen or so dresses that were cute, but either were a complete unitasker (thanks, Alton!) or made my pockets weep. I'm a college student. With high fashion taste. And so I continued to wait.

Sometimes, I find a high priced item and fall in love with it. Red Dress Shoppe has many b-e-autiful retro inspired pieces, but are out of my price range. After literal weeks of wavering, I finally placed and order on one of their dresses that was on sale! that I had been lusting after for some time. It wasn't yellow, but it followed another "list" entry that my clothing lacks - print! So I happily placed my order and await it's arrival.

Mere hours later, browsing some new-to-me blog, I find a link to a skirt I wanted to check out. I will likely never order a skirt online. My measurements are too iffy for that. But I browsed the site anyway. There in all it's on sale glory was the perfect yellow dress. Sleeveless, with the potential for layering. Bright sunny yellow. "Gold". Tulle turned out to have a local store base. Despite the fact that I was going to order online, it still makes me feel more comfortable that a brick-and-mortar company exists in my area. I've been burnt by bad sellers lately so my online ordering has become very picky.

I still balked about the prices. Especially after ordering one dress already. I whined at D. Even on sale, these two dresses are definitely on the high end of my spending.

I rationalized this by the fact that both dresses will get a lot of wear over the next few seasons. Both are higher quality items than cheap-o brands that I often pick up for a thrill. Investment pieces if you will. Also Tulle is donating 50% of your subtotal to the Haiti relief fund. My shopping was partially helping charity! Laughing myself silly, I placed the order.

I'm eagerly awaiting to receive the dresses. I'm hoping for the best in terms of fit. Ideally they're both perfect, and will stay in my rotation for a long time if the both work out.

National Wear Red Day!

I haven't felt up to getting out of my pjs lately, but in honor of Wear Red Day I felt like I needed to make a little effort. Plus it gave me a good excuse to wear my "christmas" day sweater and to wear my awesome white blazer that rarely sees the light of day. I feel like it's so gosh-darn stark and structured.

I'll also admit, that this outfit didn't start out this way. I was in my flats and a vest, assuming I'd spend the day at my desk. After about 10 minutes, plans changed and so did my outfit. I also added my heart necklace in honor of Wear Red Day.

I'm so glad it did because those pants + flats aren't the best combination.

Zebra flats, Red 3/4 sleeve sweater - Walmart
Pleather Pants! - Lip Service
Boots - Nine West
White blazer - Rugged Warehouse
Black Vest - Body shop
Heart Necklace - Kohls

(PS Who else has been keeping up with Poject Runway? I'm enjoying it but not as much as past seasons. The designers seem much more scatterbrained/uninspired)

More like me

I've been having a bit of an identity crisis lately. I woke up this morning with a mission to feel more like myself. I pulled together some of my fav pieces (and changed my mind about a dozen times) But with D's help I picked out a comfortable fun outfit.

College is such a stressful thing. I feel like I'm back in high school. Many people say how different college is from high school, but since I went to a college prep high school, it's not much different except for the time schedule and fewer classes. But the work load is about the same and class is oriented almost identically. It's also an area where I have to be myself more, but do so in an extroverted manner.

I'm really looking forward to accomplishing some major goals in the next few months, and hopefully leading me to a job.

Anyway enough of my daily chatter. Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday.

Pants - rugged warehouse (Celebrity Pink Jeans)
earrings, jacket - Belk
Cami - NY&Co.

Inspiration - Blogger Fabfindsunder50

I started out following a lot of big-name bloggers. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this. Many popular bloggers are popular for a reason. They are inspirational. The problem I found out very quickly is that you miss out on smaller blogs, as well as community support. I've come across many blogs which are "smaller", but have amazing people posting who are just as inspiring to me as those "big-name" bloggers.

I suppose what I'm getting at is to thank those who are following AND to share my latest inspiration from a bigger name blogger. Kimberly of Fab Finds under $50 often has amazingly paired outfits and great advice to her readers. While I've never followed her inspiration blog, I enjoy reading it and seeing her interpretations.

One day she paired a long sleeved striped top underneath this sunny yellow jacket. I mentally stuck away that outfit idea. Sitting around last night thinking I had nothing to wear - Boy was I wrong! It wasn't sunny yellow, but I had a yellow cardigan and a striped top. I went for black pants over denim, because they don't get enough love.

Also it's not pictured well here but last night I dyed my hair with "Paint the Town" bright red hair dye. I feel so bright and colorful.

EDIT (9pm): I wanted a better picture, so I had D take another pic right before I left for class.
